Mr. Cooley was born in Leakesville, Mississippi on December 7, 1934 to the late James and Addie Cooley. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 6 years. He retired as a third-generation logger in 2011. He also worked for many years as an iron-worker. He was a long-time member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. He has been a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. James Gregory Cooley was a one of a kind man that was well loved by many and will never be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Addie P. Cooley and his second wife of 12 years, Linda B. Cooley; his son, Gregory Allen Cooley; parents, James and Addie Cooley; sisters, Genelle, Theora, Vernette, Joyce, and Margie; brothers, AJ, Layton, Hershel, Shirley, Roland, Hubert, and Rayvon.
He is survived by his three children, Debbie(John) Moore of Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Donna(Roylynn)Thompson Smith of Jersey, Arkansas, and Jeff(Eleanor) Cooley of Vacaville, California; grandchildren, Jeremiah Moore, Jared Moore, Dillon Thompson, Jennilee Thompson, Katie(Jeremy) Montgomery, Jacob Cooley, Amanda Cooley, Joseph(Kady) Cooley, Emily Cooley, and Gabriel Becerril; great grandchildren, Ethan Trest, Corbin Trest, Ava Howell, Asher Howell, and Aidan Beccerril; sister, Ava Walker; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Visitation for Mr. James Cooley will be Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Moments Funeral Home. The Funeral service will be Thursday, March 28, 2019 beginning at 11:00 AM at Rocky Creek Baptist church with Bro. Grant McClain officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Creek cemetery with military honors.
