Michael Bjork Obituary

Michael David Bjork (69), of Lucedale, MS, passed away on March 12th. Mike was a sweet, gentle man that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished by all who knew him. Our “Poppi,” as he liked to be called by his grandchildren, was an amazing father, supportive brother, loving uncle, and a loyal friend.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 16th at Barton Baptist Church, 2202 Hwy 63 South, Lucedale, MS 39452 with Bro. Brad Howard officiating. A time of fellowship will begin at 4:00pm, followed by the service at 5:00pm. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Elias, Huey Riley, Noah Riley, Jordan Riley, Jimmy Black, Doug Hatcher, and Hank Cochran.

Born August 29, 1949, in Denver, CO, he was the son of the late Glen O. Bjork Sr and Betty L. (Webb) Bjork. Mike spent his childhood on Tabletop Mountain in Golden, CO. When he was a teenager, Glen and Betty moved their family to Marietta, GA, where Mike would finish his teenage years and attend college to pursue a degree in architecture. Mike started a career in commercial and residential architecture while in Georgia. He later moved to New Orleans, LA where he continued his career in residential and commercial architecture then to Moss Point, MS where he finished his career as an engineer for Ingalls Shipbuilding Planning Yard.

If there was anywhere Mike loved to be, it was in the presence of his family. He especially loved attending various sporting events for his granddaughter and great nephews. It was obvious to anyone who knew him that his family was his most cherished belonging and brought him great joy. He was a committed member of Barton Baptist Church where he regularly volunteered and attended Sunday school and church services. His Sunday best attire always included cowboy boots. As a child, his favorite pastime was riding horses with his sister as they pretended to be cowboys on Tabletop Mountain. His love for horses followed him into his adult years. Mike’s hobbies included tending to horses, completing puzzles, reading the paper, golfing with church buddies, and watching James Bond movies.

Loved ones that cleared the path for Mike are his father Glen Bjork Sr.; mother, Betty Bjork; brother, Glen Bjork Jr.; and daughter, Keya Yarbrough. Loved ones that will miss Mike until they meet again are his two daughters Christy Bjork Elias (Matthew) and Claudia Bjork; son, Kai Bjork; his sister, Karen Bjork Chesteen; his grandchildren, Ayden Bjork, John Salem Elias, and Noah and Jonah Thomas; nephew, Christian Bjork; and nieces, Melanie Riley (Huey, Noah and Jordan), Kimberly Rencher and Kelli Smrekar.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to American Heart Association and/or Barton Baptist Church. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the medical staff a Forrest General, Select Specialty, Stone County Hospital, and Canon Hospice.
