William Floyd Herndon

William Floyd Herndon, age 91, of Chickasaw, Alabama passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 17, 2018 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi to the late Mr. Leonard and Mrs. Susie Davis Herndon. He enlisted into the military at an early age and proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He received the Army of Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. After his military career, he married Ms. Mary Turner and started a family. He worked for Gulf Shipyards in Chickasaw and later as an automotive mechanic. He was a faithful member of Chickasaw United Methodist Church. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Susie Herndon; brothers, Richard Earl Herndon, Clyde Ray Herndon and Fred Eugene Herndon; sisters, Mary Lavene Ezell and Julia Lynell Massey.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 67 years, Mary Herndon; children, William D. (Pam) Herndon, Robert Allan (Patty) Herndon, Thomas J. (Rhonda) Herndon, Shirley (Bob) Cantrell and Mary Paula (Sib) Howell; brothers, Leonard Lloyd Herndon, Lyman Graham (Jean) Herndon and Charles Terrell (Shirley) Herndon; sister, Ann Earlene (Marion) Pierce; 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.            

The Visitation for William Floyd Herndon will be Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM at Chickasaw United Methodist Church in Chickasaw, Alabama. The Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 PM in the church sanctuary with Bro. Bryan McGrew and Rev. Dave Rhodes officiating. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:30 PM in McLeod-Magnolia Cemetery in Leakesville, Mississippi.
