Dorothy Cecile Hicks

Dorothy Cecile Hicks, age 81, passed away May 23, 2023. She was a 1959 graduate of Chatom High School and furthered her education at Livingston College (now known as the University of West Alabama) where she received a degree in Education. She worked over 30 years teaching in the Greene County School District, Elementary Education with a focus in Math. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Leakesville where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the Three Arts Club and greatly enjoyed traveling. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed.           

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Ralph Hicks, Sr.; parents, Jerry Willis Taylor and Mary Virginia Turner Taylor; brother, Noel Samuel Taylor.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, William Ralph (Shelly) Hicks, Jr.; grandsons, William Ralph Hicks, III and Samuel Staff Hicks; sisters, Nettie Jewel (Donald) Silva and Mary Virginia (Edward) Benton; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  

The Visitation for Dorothy Hicks will be Friday, May 26, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Leakesville from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. The Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 PM in the church sanctuary with Bro. Richard Stillwell officiating. Burial will follow in Hicks Family Cemetery. Pallbearers include Robert Hicks, Scott Hicks, Rudolph Hicks, Russell Evans, David Smith and Hal Rounsaville.
