Herman Rudolph “Rudy” Welford, age 88, passed away October 13, 2020. He proudly served in the United States Navy as a First Class gunner’s mate from 1950-1954 and fought in the Korean War. He played lead guitar for the gospel group The Southernaires. He enjoyed playing for the shut-ins at the assisted living homes in George County for many years. He was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. He was a loving father and pawpaw who will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Netha Lee Welford; parents, James and Carrie Welford; brothers, W. D. Welford, Jimmy Welford and Eldridge Welford.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Faye (Mike) Courtney; granddaughters, Meliah (Brandon) Bishop and Chasten (Josh) Hempstead; great granddaughters, Braylee and Makenna Bishop; sisters, Sarah Hathcock and Carolyn Shanks; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The Visitation for Herman Welford will be Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Moments Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will Friday, October, 16, 2020 beginning at 10:00 AM at Rocky Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Paul Brashier. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Rocky Creek cemetery. Pallbearers include Eddie Fleming, Monty Mizell, Mike Welford, Ethan Welford, Mickey Weaver and Vince Carlisle.
