Lucille Welford

Helen Lucille Kerr Welford, age 76, also known as Ms. Lucille or Lucy, went to her heavenly home on July 31, 2021 to be with the Lord and the rest of her loved ones. Lucille resided in the Mt. Pisgah community of Leakesville since 1965. Lucille was an active and faithful member of Mt. Pisgah United Pentecostal church. She was a founding member of the Mt. Pisgah Volunteer Fire Department as one of their first female firefighters. She recently retired from H&R Block after 24 years of dedicated service. Lucille was a dedicated servant to God, her family and her community. She was a long-time cake decorator and was known throughout the community for her homemade dumplings. She helped in any way she could for the development and wellbeing of her community, family, friends and anyone in need through numerous volunteer positions. She brought joy, peace and love to all who knew her. Her faithfulness, kindness and hard work inspired many. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.           

She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James Marvin Welford; parents, James E. and Belvina Graham Kerr; sister, Lynna Beth Gupton; grandson, James Elliot Davis.   

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Onida (Monty) Parrent of Terry, Mississippi, Jo (Marion) Lollis of Shiloh, Illinois, Marvin Ray (Lisa) Welford of Leakesville, Mississippi and Martha (Carlie) Davis of Leakesville, Mississippi; sister, Judy (Alton) Bright of Elk Horn, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; numerous family and friends.               

The Visitation for Lucille Welford will be Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Mt. Pisgah United Pentecostal Church from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be Thursday, August 5, 2021 in the church sanctuary beginning at 10:00 AM with Bro. Causey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Mt. Pisgah Volunteer Firefighters serving as Pallbearers.
