William "Willie" D. Herndon

William “Willie” Herndon, age 69, of Eight Mile, Alabama passed away on October 6, 2021. As a life-long entrepreneur in building and construction, Willie had a most uncanny ability to build deep and meaningful connections with people from all walks of life. Colleagues and customers of his will remember him more as a dear friend than a business associate.
Willie’s truest gift was his passion for bringing joy and laughter to everyone around him. He carried on the legacy of storyteller from his father who both shared an unmatched ability to induce their audiences into belly aching laughter at will. As a musician, Willie lead many-a-circle of guitar pickers and sing-alongers late into the night after family gatherings. The ending chorus of every song the same: “One more time!” He was a devoted husband of 52 years to his soul mate and high school sweetheart. The unwavering love and support he gave to each of his children will be what they cherish the most in his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Floyd and Mary Herndon.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Pam Herndon; children, Lea Herndon Fox, Lesli H. Todd and Jonathan (Tiffany) Herndon; and beloved companions Booboo and Mega; siblings, Shirley (Bob) Cantrell, Mary Paula (Sib) Howell, Robert Allan (Patty) Herndon and Thomas J. (Rhonda) Herndon; numerous nieces, nephews, and an endless list of cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life for William “Willie” Herndon will be Monday, October 11, 2021 beginning at 1:00 PM at Whistler United Methodist Church in Whistler, Alabama. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to help maintain the historic Whistler United Methodist Church of which he was a member.
